Local Residents Learn How to Overcome Stress
Burke, Virginia - Kids, jobs, not enough time, the pressure to be perfect--on February 7, these were just some of the
items that local residents listed as things at stress them out. Luckily, they also received hands on advice, strategies, and personal assistance for what to do about it. It was all part of a free, success education class on "How to Get Rid of Stress, Boredom, and Step Into a Sense of Purpose" offered by Margie Remmers at the Braddock District Government Center.
Margie Remmers is no stranger to stress. In October of 2005, when she was just 37 years old, she was rushed to the hospital with symptoms of a heart attack. It turned out to be just stress, which was no surprise, considering she was running three businesses at the time, raising her two small children, and active in her local church and
community. She needed to find a way to make changes in her life fast–ones that would stick. Her life depended on it.
Not long afterwards, she wrote a book, "Don't Stress...Your Life is Calling!", to tell her story and offer suggestions to others. "But please don't buy my book!" she told the class on Tuesday. Amidst the laughter, she explained, "It's full of bad advice. As I started to promote my book and my stress level got higher and higher, I realized I didn't know a thing."
"Then one day about two years ago, I had an epiphany," she relates, "and overnight, everything changed."
She started sharing her method of part psychology, part time management with friends and acquaintances, and when they started having similar results, she knew she was on to something.
"I got addicted to the success stories," she said, as results rolled in about marriages that were saved, moms who were now actually enjoying time with their kids, and people who were finally loving their lives.
"I wanted everyone to know how to do this, even if they couldn't afford to attend a seminar or pay for coaching," she says. That's why she started teaching the free classes at the Braddock District Government Center. "I am just so grateful to Supervisor Cook and Braddock District for allowing us to use their space to bring classes like this to the community," says Margie. "Especially in these tough economic times, when people really need to make some changes in their lives to move forward, it's so nice to be able to provide somewhere that they can come."
And what do the participants have to say about the classes? "I loved how specifically Margie approached the topics/problems people had," said Kelli Allred.
"Margie's energy, excitement, and positiveness were the best part," added Kristen Sorrells. "And I've never heard of anyone telling people not to buy their book!"
Margie Remmers' free personal and professional success classes are offered the first Tuesday of every month at
Braddock Hall. For more information and to register, visit www.Meetup4Success.com.
