A collision between a car and a motorcycle by Roberts Road and Burke Centre Parkway has put both drivers in the hospital and blocked traffic in the area.

An officer at the scene said the accident took place at 4:59 p.m. A small white car collided with the motorcycle while attempting to turn out of the Wal-Mart parking lot. The male motorcyclist suffered severe head contusions and was flown by a helicopter that landed by Terra Centre Elementary to Fairfax Hospital. The officer said his condition is believed to be life-threatening.

The female driver of the car suffered an airbag impact to the side of the head. She was also taken to the hospital for precautionary reasons.

The accident blocked off traffic going north on Roberts from Burke Centre Parkway and the entrance into the Wal-Mart parking lot off the road. Traffic going south on Roberts was backed up as well, and many cars were observed taking a shortcut through Burke Commons Road. An officer at the scene said that once police were done investigating and taking pictures, the scene would be cleared and opened again for traffic.

Around 6 p.m., a man identifying himself as the father of the motorcyclist appeared at the scene. He said that he was called with his son's cell phone and told about the accident. Police officers spoke with the man and directed him to the hospital.
