Braddock District Town Hall on New County Executive

Meeting and panel discussion will be held Monday, Jan. 9.

With County Executive Tony Griffin's impending retirement on April 12, 2012, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors is in the early stages of finding his successor.

Braddock District Supervisor John Cook is hosting a Town Hall meeting on Monday, Jan. 9, to solicit input from county residents.  The meeting will be held at Kings Park Library from 7:30 to 9 p.m.

"We should consider what background, personality and experiences need to be brought to the table," Cook said.  "In thinking through this 'job description,' it will be beneficial to have the thoughts and comments of Fairfax County residents."

The Town Hall will be in two halves. The first will include a panel discussion, moderated by former board member Stu Mendelsohn.  The panel will include John Peterson of the Peterson Companies, Karen Conchar of the Fairfax County Government Employees Union, Ann Zuvekas, the current Braddock appointee to the Health Care Advisory Board, and an additional member from the business community.

The second half of the Town Hall will be opened for comments and questions.

"While the Town Hall is itself an important part of the process, it is crucial that the ideas generated and the lessons learned are collected and presented in an actionable manner," said Supervisor Cook.  He intends after the Town Hall to formally present a summation of the information gathered to the Board of Supervisors.

In addition to this Town Hall, the County has created an online survey pertaining to a new county executive.  Click the survey button at http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/cex/search/ to participate.
