Girl Scouts representing Burke's Service Unit 52-7 gathered Thursday at The Woods Community Center to be honored by the Burke Centre Conservancy Board of Trustees.

Denis Gulakowski, board president and trustee-at-large, read a ceremonial proclamation honoring the 100th anniversary of Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA).

GSUSA declared 2012 "The Year of the Girl" in recognition of the organization's centennial.  The Burke Centre Conservancy Board echoed that declaration, declaring March 2012 through March 2013 the "Year of the Girl" in Burke.

Girl Scout Service Unit 52-7 is sponsoring a Centennial Birthday Party on March 24 between 11 and 2 at the Woods Community Center.  The public is invited for demonstrations, games and birthday cake.

Service Unit 52-7 is comprised of girls from Lake Braddock Secondary School, Robinson Secondary School, and White Oaks, Terra Centre, Sangster, Cherry Run and Nativity Elementary Schools.
