For Mercedes Jara, a dream has come true. The Burke native has long been a fan of international and independent film, and she landed an internship with the eighth annual DC Shorts Film Festival.
Running through September 18, DC Shorts will showcase 145 films from 23 nations. All are independent films 20 minute or less in length, created by established and up-and-coming filmmakers across the world. Moviemaker Magazine praised DC Shorts as “one of the leading film festivals” in the country.
Jara, who attended and is now a senior at Marymount, said she is most interested in two Peruvian films showcased this year. ¡Una Carrerita, Doctor! and Último Recurso reflect her family ancestry.
