Marc Greidinger Pulls Out of Braddock District Supervisor Race

Says he's throwing his support behind fellow Democrat Chris Wade

Update: 4:04 p.m.

"It takes courage to run for elected office," Chris Wade said. "Marc stood up and took on that challenge. I have a tremendous amount of respect for him. He has worked tirelessly for Braddock District and the Democratic Party. I am honored that he has decided to support my campaign. After speaking with Marc yesterday, I know that he will continue to put his energy behind making our community better and electing Democrats this fall."

Wade had no comment to offer on Supervisor John Cook's criticism of his background.

“I think it’s important for Democrats to unite behind one candidate,” Greidinger said of his main reason to withdraw, indicating that he will support Christopher Wade in his campaign for the Braddock District Supervisor seat. “[Wade] is a smart and competent person and is gaining support from a lot of people I admire and respect, so I decided it’s best for the party to withdraw.”

Fellow Democrat Chris Wade, a manager at MorganFranklin who also teaches as an adjunct professor at George Mason University's School of Management, last month.

"After speaking with a number of people whom I respect, I have concluded that the other Democrat in this race is a smart and capable individual who will be well positioned to win in November," Greidinger's announcement on his website said. "For the good of the party and the people of Braddock, it is important for us Democrats to be unified and give whoever the eventual nominee is the best shot at winning in November.  I wish Mr. Wade luck and I urge my supporters to consider his candidacy."

Current Braddock District Supervisor John Cook spoke on Greidinger's decision to leave to Burke Patch this morning.

"While [Greidinger and I] have different views on political policies, I know [Marc] to be someone who says what he means and means what he says," Cook said.

Cook said that he does not really know Wade that well except for his public record.

"He’s voted in a few Republican primaries, has never voted in a Democratic primary," Cook said. "He did not vote in the local elections in 2007, has not been active in his community and from what I can see has not had any leadership role in any community organization or any community effort at all. I believe this job is about communities and it's about getting into neighborhoods. . . To me, the first qualification for this job is a proven record in your neighborhood."
