Marymount Student from Burke Charged in Stabbing at Dorm
Authorities said Francis Joseph Maguire was charged in Friday's incident.
A 20-year-old student from Burke has been charged in a stabbing at a Marymount University dorm.
Francis Joseph Maguire, of Burke, was arrested Friday night on warrants charging him with malicious wounding, according to the Arlington County Police Department. He is a student at the university.
Police reported that the victim, who is also a student at the school, was found laying in a hallway of the dorm with a stomach wound. The victim was taken to INOVA Fairfax Hospital.
“This was an isolated incident and there was no danger to the campus community, so we were never on lockdown,” said Laurie Callahan, a spokeswoman for the university.
Students who signed up for emergency text alerts did, however, get a text message about the incident from the school, Callahan said.
Not much is known about what prompted the incident, but Callahan said the students had an “altercation.”
Maguire remains in custody at the Arlington County Detention Facility. Additional charges related to alcohol and narcotics are pending, according to the police report.
