Looking for a place to stay warm this cold this weekend? Then step into another world with the Northern Virginia Players as they take you “under the sea” in their production of Disney’s “The Little Mermaid Jr.” This production features 58 actors, ages 8-18, from within the homeschool community in the Northern Virginia region.
Kate Wittig and Ann Eul, the directors of the Northern Virginia Players, began this theatre troupe three years ago and have developed it into a professional organization designed to provide excellence in community theatre, but perhaps more importantly build strong character qualities within the actors. The students work together in building a team, while enhancing problem solving skills, self esteem and confidence that they can carry with them throughout their lives.
Both Eul and Wittig bring years of experience in professional theater and musical stage to the NV Players. However, the passion that both these directors have for assisting students to develop not only their theatrical skills, but also to become productive citizens, is second to none. Eul shared the highlight of the performance for her as, “The actors, the families, the bonding that has taken place.....That is true of all the shows Kate and I have had the honor to direct....We love to watch the 'team' pull together and encourage one another to reach levels they didn't think possible.”
The show is in its final weekend with 3 available shows left: Friday at 7:30 p.m., Saturday at 1:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. at the Family Worship Center, 7719 Fullerton Road Springfield, VA 22153.
