Authorities have asked residents, if safe and possible, to clear storm drains of leaves and debris in preparation for Sandy's heavy rains.

As schools close and public transit stops service, residents are hunkering down Monday to prepare for Hurricane Sandy and stay safe as the storm makes its way throughout the Northern Virginia region.

Are you out getting last minute supplies? Helping neighbors secure areas prone to flooding?

Patch was out surveying the Burke and Fairfax Station areas early Monday before the high winds are expected later in the day. Burke Lake Park was closed and there was already standing water on Fairfax County Parkway.

We want to connect neighbors across the area and share stories from storm preparation and aftermath. Upload your photos here or add your comments below!
