Police: Ninth in Springfield Assault Series Reported

The following items are from recent police updates through Nov. 7 from the Sully, Franconia and West Springfield police districts of the Fairfax County Police Department.
Assault (red on above map), Detectives have learned of a ninth fondling incident that appears to be linked to others in the Springfield area. This incident took place on Thursday, Nov. 1 around 4:30 p.m. A 42-year-old woman told police that she was grabbed from behind in front of a home in the 6000 block of Hibbling Avenue in Springfield.
She described the suspect as Hispanic with a medium build and short black hair. He wore a dark colored jacket, blue jeans and a red baseball cap.
The victim told a friend about the incident but she was unaware of the series of incidents in the neighborhood. The friend urged the victim to contact police. Police are continuing to investigate.
In separate and unrelated incidents:
Peeping (blue on above map), 8000 block of Rockwood Court, 11/2/12, 10 a.m. The victim reported she woke up at midnight and saw a man standing at the rear sliding door. He was looking into the residence and fled when she stood up.
Explosive Device (yellow on above map), Burke Commons Road/Wye Oak Commons Court, 11/3/12, 12:50 p.m. Officers responded for the sound of gunshots. They found two exploded water bottles and evidence of the materials used. There are no suspects.
Burglary (green on above map), 10900 block of Crevenna Oak Drive, 11/6/12, 9:20 p.m. A resident reported someone entered the home and stole a gaming system. Entry was made through an unlocked sliding door.
Larcenies (purple on above map):
- 5700 block of Burke Centre Parkway - bottle of liquor from business
- 5700 block of Burke Centre Parkway - two cases of beer from business
- 6800 block of Dina Leigh Court - credit cards from residence
- 6200 block of Greeley Boulevard - cell phone, laptop computer and GPS from vehicle
- 6100 block of Pond Lily Court - cash from residence
No vehicle thefts were reported at the time.
