Robinson Girls Swim Third in State, Boys Finish Fourth

Rams girls finish behind region rivals Langley, Oakton

Robinson had a strong showing at the boys and girls state swim championships over the weekend, as the girls came in third with 161 points and the boys came in fourth, totaling 126 points. Langley won the girls competition with an overall score of 187, while Westfield dominated on the boys side, finishing with an astounding 238 points.

The Rams didn’t have any first-place finishers, but picked up points in event after event, leading to the high finishes. On the girls’ side, they were one of the few top teams with divers making significant contributions, as Laura Gartnell came in second and Ali Graine finished fifth.

Personifying Robinson’s “no stars” approach was the team’s performance in relays. For the girls, Tori Baker, Rachel Canty, Kathleen Dodson and Katie Munch game in second in the 200-meter medley relay and fourth in the 400-meter freestyle relay. The boys’ foursome of Matt Jones, Kyle Bumiller, Matt Osiecki and Ricky Munch came in second in the 200-meter freestyle relay. Substituting Ben Zajic for Bumiller, the group also finished second in the 400 meters.
