Almost 200 traffic crashes occurred at intersections in Annandale, Burke, and West Springfield in 2012, according to data from the West Springfield District Station of the Fairfax County Police Department.
According to Capt. Joe Hill, commander of the station, officers will target the intersections in 2013 in an effort to curb the amount of traffic crashes this year. In addition to increased enforcement, police will use educational campaigns and media enforcement to spread awareness about driving safely.

I also believe Burke Center Parkway and Roberst should have made the list.
Also did they just count the number of crashes or was it based on the number of crashes relative to the number of cars that go thru that intersection. my guess is they just went with the number of crashes. Makes since that those intersections listed would be on the top ten. Lets do the math the other way and you may get different results.

Hi Gary, I've reached out to Capt. Hill with your question. While volume is a contributing factor to the number of crashes, the intersections listed above were chosen based on the number of reportable (injury or sufficient damage) accidents at each location. Thanks for reading!

Hi all an thanks for responding. Burke Center/Roberts is not on our top 10 list, but we recognize sadly that we have had very serious crashes along that stretch and at that intersection. We will routinely enforce speeding and other poor driving behavior at that intersection and along that strech of road as well. Thanks for feedback.

How about Guinea Road and Little River Turnpike (LRT). If going north on Guinea Road and wanting to go straight over LRT into the Jewish Community Center parking lot, sometimes drivers in the middle of three lanes on Guinea make a left to go west on LRT. Signage is needed. The only notice there is painted on the lanes and when covered with cars, you cannot see them. Thanks.

FFX County Parkway and Reservation has seen plenty of nasty crashes. Interestingly, I was nearly T- boned crossing that intersection @ 0433 on the 20th by a COP running a red light.. without flashing lights.

I completely support adding more police to those intersections. However, it irks me a bit that I think the police are sometimes sent to patrol stop signs in remote areas simply to raise money thru ticketing, since they know no one stops there. It seems there are better uses for those police.
Also, I would be interested to know what specific behaviors are causing the most accidents. Is it people trying to get through lights after they have turned red? Right on red? Left turns into traffic going straight? I would like to have that information, if it is available.
I also think we ought to have a fine for people who beep at those who actually stop before going right on red or who don't jump out into traffic fast enough at intersections. It's really stressful sometimes trying to drive safely when everyone else is in such a hurry.
