The Franconia District Police Station began their food drive in 2010. The “wagon” is the marked police vehicle used to transport people to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center. During the holiday season, the goal is to “fill the wagon” full of non-perishable food items to be delivered to local food banks and churches.
According to the Franconia District Station website, about 12,000 pounds of food -- nearly double what was collected last year -- and over $1,200 in cash, check and gift card donations, was collected in total.
