Gem and Bead Store, FedEx, Zings Frozen Yogurt Open in Burke

A roundup of the top five businesses that opened in the Burke-area so far in 2013.

Burke is no stranger to new businesses moving into the community. To celebrate that, here's a look back at the top five businesses that have opened in the Burke-area in 2013 so far.

  1. New Gem and Bead Store Opens in Burke: Much earlier in the year, Burke became the home of a brand new gem and bead store, aptly named Burke Gems and Beads. The owner initially told Patch she hoped the store would be able to provide Burke crafters with a neighborhood store to buy materials.
  2. New FedEx Store Opens in West Springfield: This FedEx store is the most recent store to open in the Burke/West Springfield area, opening back in May in the West Springfield Shopping Center.
  3. Burke PhotoCraft Store Relocates: The PhotoCraft store, located at 6025 Burke Centre Pkwy. in the Burke Towne Center, left its original space to make a new home a few doors down in the former location of the W Salon (which also moved several doors down in the same shopping center and had a grand reopening in March).
  4. Zinga Frozen Yogurt Opens in Kings Park Shopping Center: National chain Zinga opened in the Kings Park Shopping Center at 8942 Burke Lake Rd., in April. The company has since expanded to other locations such as Arlington and Falls Church.
  5. Supervisor McKay, Residents Celebrate Homewood Suites Grand Opening in SpringfieldHomewood Suites by Hilton opened back in March, but the hotel held a grand opening celebration in May that featured dancers, food, visits from local officials and more.
