UPDATE: Power Back on Thursday Morning for Thousands in Burke
Thousands of homes across Northern Virginia were without power Wednesday night; temperatures were also expected to take a plunge.
UPDATE, Thursday 7:40 a.m.: The lights are back on in Burke Thursday morning for thousands of homes that saw power blow out after high winds blew through the area Wednesday night.
About half a dozen clusters number around 50 homes were still without power Thursday morning.
Wednesday night more than 40,000 homes were without power in Fairfax County; that number was down to 4,000 Thursday morning.
Temperatures are in the 20s Thursday morning across Northern Virginia.

High winds that likely downed trees, knocked out power Wednesday night to thousands of homes in the Burke area of Fairfax County. The area is under a Wind Advisory from the National Weather Service with gusts forecast up to 50 MPH.
A Dominion Power outage map, at 11:45 p.m., showed the Burke area riddled with dozens of clusters of outages, in the thousands.
In all Wednesday night, 34,111 homes in Fairfax County were without power, 42,876 in Northern Virginia in all, just before midnight Wednesday.
The estimated time the power would be back on in Burke was not available on the Dominion site. The problems cited for the outage ranged from "storm," to "pending investigation."
The National Weather Service issued the Wind Advisory that started Wednesday at 6 p.m. and is expected to be lifted by Thursday at 11 a.m. Northern Virginia is seeing a huge dip in temperatures. Wednesday's highs were near 70 degrees. The high Thursday is expected to be 36 degrees.
