Jammin’ Beach Party Brings Fun in the Sun to Burke Libraries

The Summer Reading Program held last week at Pohick Library comes to Burke Centre on July 18 and Kings Park on August 1.

For people young and old, summer is a time for fun in the sun. It is a time for daring expeditions, road trips and soaring through the surf. For children who attended the Jammin’ Beach Party at the Pohick Regional Library last week, summer fun took on a whole new meaning.  Entertainment came in the form of music, “surfing”, and meeting Cheyenne, a green wing macaw.

The summer reading event sponsored by Fairfax County Public Library welcomed back Cody and Bj Wallace. With song and movement, they  immersed children in an interactive beach experience.  A husband and wife team, Cody and Bj have been performing Jammin’ Beach Party for five years and said they thoroughly enjoy the experience. “I love the fact that our show is interactive,” Bj said.  “A lot of kids are shy about coming up in front of people, and it’s thrilling to see kids come out of their shell,” she said.

Carolyn LaChance, youth services manager at Pohick Regional Library, said the program has always been a fascinating experience for children.  “They [Cody and Bj] talk about the rainforests and where parrots come from,” LaChance said. “The kids are very fascinated by the parrot.”

Jammin’ Beach Party will be hosted at Burke Centre Library at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, July 18, and at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, August 1, at Kings Park Library.  Information about tickets and registration is available here.

Cody and Bj say one of their main goals is to teach kids about respecting animals and the environment.  The husband and wife team of Cody and Bj Productions, Inc., travel between Richmond and Frederick, Maryland, with their performances.

The Fairfax County Public Library Summer Reading Program
