Fat Tuesday's

Fat Tuesday's is the closest thing to Mardi Gras in the surrounding Burke area. This local dive bar, located right down the road from Burke on Route 123, mixes purple, green and gold decorations with Cajun cooking and live entertainment. Each night of the week offers a different happy hour special. Tuesday nights are Raw Bar Night, with half-priced seafood including oysters, clams and mussels ($1.50 for a half-dozen) and spiced shrimp ($1.95 for a quarter pound). Local bands also perform on Wednesday-Saturday nights. Open daily from 11:30 a.m. through 2 a.m.

Kate's Irish Pub

Just a few years ago, DC's On Tap Magazine named Kate's Irish Pub its Bar of the Month. Today, Kate's is still living up to that reputation. In addition to performances by local music artists, the pub showcases karaoke and open mic nights weekly. Kate's goes above and beyond typical bar food, serving up traditional Irish fare including Shepherds Pie, Corned Beef and Cabbage, Fish and Chips and Irish stew. As can be expected, happy hour and football-related drink specials are offered. Kate's also organizes baseball, hockey and softball leagues. Open daily from 11 a.m. until 2 a.m.
