Northern Virginia is still looking good to see some snow later this week, a spokesman for the National Weather Service said Tuesday afternoon.

"We're likely going to get snow, but not a heavy snow" Thursday night, Jared Klein, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Sterling, said Tuesday afternoon.

"We're talking about an inch or two as the most likely situation or even less than that," he said.

"Right now it does look like we have a storm system coming to impact us late Thursday afternoon, mostly Thursday night and then moving out of here by Friday morning," he said.

There is a 60 percent chance of snow for Thursday night for Northern Virginia. It will likely start out as rain Thursday afternoon when temperatures are in the 40s and then turn into snow as temperatures begin to fall, he said.

"Snow would stick with lower temperatures" that are expected, he said.

If a coastal storm system moves closer to the coast "we will get more precipitation and if it moves out to sea, it'll be less," he noted.

Expect a blast of cold Friday, with highs in the 20s. Temperatures Friday night will be in the low teens. The cold weather will stick around Saturday, when the area will see highs in the mid 30s.
