Soggy Weekend, Lower Temps Next Week on Tap

Unseasonably warm temps will give way to highs mainly in the 60s next week, forecasters say.

If you were planning on spending a lot of time outdoors this weekend, you might want to rethink your plans.

Forecasters for The Weather Channel predict a 70 percent chance of rain on Saturday and Sunday.

The Weather Channel's 10-day forecast calls for highs next week "only" in the 60s, more in line with springlike temperatures than the near 80-degree temps Northern Virginia has experienced the past week.

Area forecasters say that March's "heat wave" has seen temperatures about 11 degrees above what is normal for this time of year. The National Weather Service declared this past winter the warmest ever in the D.C. metro area.

As for the weekend weather, WJLA Meteorologist Bob Ryan tweeted Wednesday: "Enjoy blossoms next 3 days 1"+ rain coming over the weekend."

If you have a hankering to visit the Tidal Basin, peak bloom ends on Friday, according to the National Cherry Blossom Festival 2012 Bloom Watch. Friday temperatures will hit 80 degrees, according to the National Weather Service, before they dip into the 50s and 60s on Saturday.
