The Weekend List: Five Non-Alcoholic Events

With the weekend approaching, you might find yourself wondering exactly what it is you want to do. For those who are not bar-hoppers or night-owls, here are five things to keep you busy this weekend that don't involve going out during the late hours:

Local High School Football – October 8

Cheer on a family member, friend or neighbor at one of our local school's games. West Springfield varsity football hosts South County Friday night at 7:30. Lake Braddock varsity football travels to face Lee at 7:30.

American Freedom Festival – October 9

The Rowdy Friends Tour 2010, featuring Hank Williams Jr., Jamey Johnson, Colt Ford, Josh Thompson and The Grascals, comes to the Patriot Center Saturday night at 7:00. Ticket sales benefit Easter Seals, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Armed Services YMCA and other charitable organizations that serve and support the military and their families. Burke Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department Open House – October 9

As part of National Fire Prevention Week, Burke Volunteer Fire and Rescue will be having an open house from 10-4. Firefighters and paramedics will display and host activities emphasizing fire prevention and fire injuries.

Fairfax City 34th Annual Fall Festival – October 9

Hosted from 10-5 in the heart of downtown Fairfax, the 34th Annual Fall Festival is a collection of arts, crafts, food vendors, children's activities and musical entertainment for all ages. Admission to the festival is free.

Sunday Brunch at Hopsfrog Grille – October 10

Grab a friend or loved one and check out what the Connection Newspaper voted the "Best Brunch Buffet in Town." Selections include an omelet station, Belgian waffles with toppings, a carving station with roast beef and turkey, a salad bar and much more. Sunday's brunch buffet is open from 10-3.
