2. Fairfax Symphony Orchestra

Why Go: Maestro Christopher Zimmerman will be conducting Mahler’s Resurrection Symphony, which he calls “…a musical journey which speaks to the human condition in all its complexities and paradoxes…”

3. Spring Garden Day
Where/When: Green Spring Gardens, 4603 Green Spring Road, Alexandria/Saturday, May 14 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
Why Go: There will be over 40 vendors with rare and unusual plants to help you complete the look of your spring garden.

4. Children’s Concert
Where/When: Lake Braddock Secondary School, 9200 Burke Lake Road/Saturday, May 14 from 1-2:30 p.m.
Why Go: Children and adults of all ages will enjoy listening to the Lake Braddock Choral Music Department sing iconic Disney songs while dressed as Disney characters. This concert will benefit ECHO, a nonprofit organization in Springfield that provides emergency assistance to those in need.
Pricing: $2 or two canned food items
5. Franconia in the Civil War
Where/When: Robert E. Lee Recreation Center, 6601 Telegraph Road, Franconia/Saturday, May 14 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday, May 15 from 10 a.m.-6 p.m.
Why Go: Saturday's program includes a rundown on various Union forts, reenactments, free sample of Brunswick stew and corn bread (which was a common period dish) and civil war period music. Sunday's program will focus on Black History during the war with a recitation the Emancipation Proclamation and a performance by the Carter Gospel Singers.
