'All That Jazz' Concert Comes to West Springfield High School Saturday

The 26-person all-girl West Springfield High School choir will perform a variety of jazz and Broadway songs.

The West Springfield High School Personality Show Choir will perform a selection of jazz and Broadway tunes Saturday night as part of their annual "All That Jazz" concert.

"This 'All that Jazz' show is our interpretation of a modern Cabaret and we hope there is something for everyone," said Choir Director Dustin Brandt. "The tradition of 'All that Jazz' is more in the name. There is a healthy variety of jazz/pop/Broadway songs and even some modern a cappella, stomp and alt country."

The concert is one of two annual productions for the choir. According to Brandt, the choir also hosts a "Breakfast with Santa" fundraiser in December when students dress up as famous animated characters and superheroes and perform carols and seasonal songs.

On Saturday, the choir will perform several song selections, both solo and duet Broadway tunes such as "Proud Mary," "Summertime," "Shop Around" and "Fever."

The 26-person all-girl choir includes a mix of WSHS students from all grade levels.

Preparation for the concert started back in January and the choir has spent the last three weeks working on the solo and duet selections, but Brandt said planning for the concert takes about a year.

"Most repertoire is chosen at the beginning of the school year," said Brandt, who added that he chose the ensemble pieces, but the students chose the solo songs and duets.

Jacob Kidder, a WSHS alumnus and professional Broadway music director and accompanist, will serve as accompanist for the concert.

The concert will begin at 7 p.m. at West Springfield High School and will last approximately an hour and 15 minutes with a 15-intermission. Tickets are $5 at the door.
