Board of Supervisors Approve School Bond Referendum

School Bond to bring significant renovations and improvements to Braddock District schools

The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, in a unanimous 10-0 vote, approved a school bond referendum for over $250 million. The referendum will go before voters this fall for final consideration on Tuesday November 8.

For the Braddock District the proposed bonds would fund renovations and improvements to Canterbury Woods Elementary, Keene Mill Elementary, Terra Centre Elementary, North Springfield Elementary, Villa Elementary, and West Springfield High School.

“Investing in our schools means investing in our children, who are the future of Fairfax County,” stated Braddock District Supervisor John Cook. “This money will provide some needed relief and remodeling to our schools, and really, probably the most used facilities in our county.”

            The bonds would provide:

  • $14.9 million for Canterbury Woods Elementary and $16.6 million for Terra Centre Elementary for infrastructure improvements and renovations that could include new floors, new ceilings, and sound systems and at Terra Centre this also means new walls, since it was originally built with open classrooms
  • $5.5 million for West Springfield High School, $723K for North Springfield Elementary, and $908K for Keene Mill Elementary for evaluation and planning that will go toward future capital renovations and improvements
  • $3.129 million for Villa Elementary for a necessary addition as a result of the Southwest boundary changes

Kiel Stone, who works in Braddock District Supervisor John Cook's office, will be posting updates from Supervisor Cook in this blog.
