Andrew Gause's Martial Arts Opens Second Location

When Andrew Gause was growing up in Falls Church, a boy in his neighborhood was taking martial arts classes.  "My parents asked if I'd like to take classes, too," said Gause. "I was instantly hooked."

Gause, who owns Andrew Gause's Martial Arts at 5230 Port Royal Road in Springfield, is opening a second studio in Fairfax Station.  The grand opening for in Fairfax Station Square will be Saturday from 11:30 a.m. - 2 p.m. at 5624 Ox Road, Suite E.

"There is something different about martial arts that grabs a hold of people, and it hooked me, too," said Gause. 

By the time he was in 7th grade, Gause had earned his black belt.  He spent so much time at the school, he began teaching when he was a freshman at Falls Church High School.  "By the time I was in 9th grade, I was geared up to do this [as my profession]," said Gause.

Gause is a Kukkiwon Certified Master.  Kukkiwon is the largest of the world Taekwondo governing bodies, according to Gause.  In addition to having his black belt, Gause qualified for certified master through written and physical tests from the organization.

"No matter what you do in life, martial arts will help you," said Gause.  He tells all his students that in addition to self-defense, martial arts builds confidence, fitness, memory, poise and the ability to handle pressure.

Gause said he and his instructors infuse some other elements into their teaching style. "Taekwondo is a striking art, so we include some punching art from Judo, Jujutsu, boxing and kick boxing in our instruction," said Gause. 

offers martial arts instruction for children, adults and families, and hosts a sparring club, summer camps and corporate wellness programs.

Saturday's free open house includes refreshments, specials for new members and a 1 p.m. performance by the school's demonstration team.
