Buns For Your Memorial Day Barbecue? Burke Businesses Bake Up

Great Harvest will have red, white and blue swirl scones, dog treats and more for sale for the holiday.

Burke residents aren't the only ones preparing for Memorial Day cookouts and celebrations this weekend. Burke businesses such as Great Harvest Bread Co. are making preparations as well.

How many buns does it take to feed a hearty Burke crowd over the first official holiday this summer?

Great Harvest Bread Co. owner Jeffrey Connelly said the store plans to bake hundreds of scones and loaves of patriotic bread to prepare for this weekend's sales.

"And I'll probably make a little extra too," said Connelly.

The shop will begin baking their red, white, and blue swirl bread and scones to sell on Friday and Saturday. Both the bread is made with cranberries, blueberries and white chocolate chips in white bread and the scones are made with raspberries, blueberries and cream cheese, according to store employee Sam.

For those residents planning to grill cookout favorites such as hamburgers and hot dogs, Great Harvest will have cheddar garlic hamburger buns and challah bread buns for sale.

The scones can be purchased in sets of four or individually to serve as many as one needs. buns are sold in six packs A single loaf of red, white, and swirl bread can serve between 6-8 people, depending on how thick it's sliced. There's no minimum required to place an order, but Connelly added that all orders, big or small, are welcome and appreciated.

For residents with overnight guests, Great Harvest recommends buying a loaf of apple scrapple bread, cranberry orange, or sonoma bread to serve with breakfast.

Dog lovers and owners can also pick up some dog treats for their favorite canine at Great Harvest.

The Burke Great Harvest Bread Co. is open Tuesday-Friday from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
