Business Spotlight: BBQ World Restaurant Celebrates 20 Years in Burke

If there's one thing some Burke businesses are known for, it's their longevity. BBQ World restaurant, which is celebrating their 20th anniversary this year, is no exception.

Located at 6050-H Burke Commons Rd., in the Burke Towne Center in the same shopping center as Walmart, the family-owned and operated restaurant is known for its fresh selection of smoked meats.

BBQ World serves both smoked chicken and smoked ribs, as well as rib and chicken sandwiches, and dishes that have a combination of chicken, pork and sausage. Side orders include corn bread, sweet potato fries, fried okra and more.

BBQ World owner and manager, known as "Mr. T," said the restaurant has been open in Burke since 1993. The restaurant offers dine in, carry out and drive-thru options for its customers.

The restaurant looks different today than it did 20 years ago. Mr. T said they've added different chairs such as the bright orange booths currently inside the restaurant and changed the decor a little.

What hasn't changed is the restaurant's dedication to serving homemade quality bbq. The quality of the food, he said, is what sets BBQ World apart and has helped the restaurant earn its reputation as one of the best places to get bbq in the state.

Customers travel from all over for a meal at BBQ, coming from Woodbridge, Crystal City, Centreville and even some as far as North Carolina.

“There’s nowhere to get BBQ anywhere but here,” said a customer at BBQ World on Monday. “I’ve lived here for four years. I don’t know of any place in Northern Virginia or in the DC area where you can get BBQ this good."

The restaurant also offers catering. For larger parties, Mr. T said he requires about a week in advance to handle an order.

BBQ World is open Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. To learn more, visit http://bbqworld-restaurant.com.
