Burke Farmers Market Opens Saturday, May 5

Fairfax County Farmers Markets are local, producer-only markets.

Each May to November the Fairfax County Park Authority supervises 11 open-air Farmers Markets throughout the county.

This year, Burke's Farmers Market is scheduled for May 5 - Nov. 17 from 8 a.m. until Noon in the .

These marketplaces feature freshly picked fruits and vegetables, cut flowers, freshly baked breads and pastries, fresh eggs, honey, cider, milk and cheese products, meat products, and even plants.

Fairfax County Cooperative Extension Master Gardeners offer plant clinics at most markets. "Citizens can bring plant or insect samples for pest identification or disease diagnosis," according to the Park Authority.

The Fairfax County Park Authority supervises the markets through the Community Horticulture office based at Green Spring Gardens. Daily operations are managed by volunteer Market Masters.

"Fairfax County Farmers Markets are local, producer-only markets," according to the Park Authority. "All products sold are produced by vendors within 125 miles of Fairfax County. Brokers and/or resellers are strictly prohibited."
