Now Open in Burke: Pet Nutrition Center

The store, located in the Burke Village Center, opened late last month.

Visitors to the Burke Village Center may have noticed a new store has replaced the former Burke Pet Center.

The Pet Nutrition Center opened in Burke on Oct. 30. The store, located at 9546 Burke Road, is the second Northern Virginia location for the center. The original store is located in Woodbridge and has been open for more than two years.

The Pet Nutrition Center specializes in high-end pet food. The center sells about 40 different brands of dog and cat "super" or "super premium" foods as well as food for birds, fish and other small animals. The store does not carry live animals of any kind.

“We have a line of supplies, remedies, anything you would need for a cat or dog,” said David Shaw, operating partner for both the Burke and Woodbridge locations.

The quality of the products they sell is largely the appeal of the store and brings in the clientele, according to Shaw. Most of the food sold at Pet Nutrition Center can’t be found in pet supply stores like PetCo, but is typically found in independent pet stores.

Since opening, Shaw said the reception from Burke residents so far has been positive.

“The reception from customers is right on target with our expectations,” said Shaw, who lives with his family in Burke.

The Burke Pet Nutrition Center is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday.
