Report: 600 New Jobs Created in Fairfax County in the Last Quarter

The Fairfax County Economic Development Authority said last week that, in the third quarter of 2013, it aided 29 companies in the creation of 600 new local jobs.

According to the EDA, a few of the 29 companies were new, and many were existing companies that accepted help to expand.

According to Gerald L. Gordon, Ph.D., president and CEO of the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority, most of the 29 businesses are in the information technology and professional services sectors, and seven are foreign-based firms using a Fairfax County location to expand into North America.

Many of the new jobs are located in Herndon, where the town's proximity to the Dulles Technology Corridor is a big factor in attracting high-tech companies.

“Fairfax County’s strengths in IT and professional services continue to be a draw for companies from the United States and around the world to locate and expand here, and that creates more jobs that strengthen and diversify our economic base and support the quality of life we enjoy here,” said Gordon. 

He added that while the quarterly numbers are lower than historical trends for Fairfax County, they are still positive and are indicators of the county’s underlying economic strength.

One of the most prominent announcements came from Appian in Reston, which develops business process software. Appian is adding 90 jobs to the area's economy.

Some of the companies that added new jobs to the Fairfax County economy with the help of the EDA are:

• Delex Systems, Inc. added 61 jobs (expansion)

• DigitalMailer, Inc. added 4 jobs (expansion)

• DLT Solutions added 22 jobs (expansion)

• eKuber Ventures Inc. added 25 jobs (expansion)

• Exostar LLC added 25 jobs (expansion)

• iDirect Government Technologies Inc. (Singapore) added 9 jobs (expansion)

• LGS Innovations (France) added 15 jobs (expansion)

• ROCS, Inc. added 30 jobs (expansion)

• Skyline Software Systems Inc. (Israel) added 4 jobs (expansion)

• XO Communications, LLC. added 37 jobs (expansion) 

• Zerion Software, Inc. added 4 jobs (expansion)
