San Vito Restaurant in Burke Closes

The restaurant filed for bankruptcy last year.

After nearly eight years in Burke, San Vito Ristorante Italiano has closed.

An employee at the Caribou Coffee shop next door told Patch the restaurant closed “very quickly and quietly” last month. According to Northern Virginia Magazine, the restaurant officially closed on Feb. 19.

The article further states a financial dispute between restaurant owner John Sayre and the shopping center was part of the reason for the closure.

Kings Park Shopping Center LLC, the shopping center where the restaurant opened in August 2005, sued San Vito last year. According to court documents, the restaurant filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in March 2012. The case was converted to a case under Chapter 7 of the Bankruptcy Code on Feb. 13.

Court documents on the Fairfax General District Court website show a judge ruled in favor of Kings Park Shopping Center LLC at a March 1 hearing, ordering San Vito to pay the shopping center what it owes.

An employee at the Centreville restaurant declined to give Patch details about the circumstances surrounding the closing of the Burke location.

The San Vito restaurant that opened in Centreville was described as a "sister property" to the former Burke restaurant, in an article in 2011.
