Virginia Named in 10 Best Wine Travel Destinations

Virginia is one of three U.S. destinations included in Wine Enthusiast Magazine's 10 best wine travel destinations for 2012.

There are about 200 wineries in Virginia, including one in our own backyard.  is in Clifton.

Virginia has some nice wines but it is always more fun to sample them at the vineyards. Great reminder of something fun to do on this gorgeous weekend!

I was taken to Potomac Point Winery for my 70th birthday and it was amazing! Details to follow. We traveled on asphalt then a dirt road; what opened to our vision was a beautiful italian designed building set high on a knoll with the vineard trailing down the slopes. The wine tasting was presented by a very knowledgeable staff around a huge granite bar. The wines were wonderful and very reasonable. Lunch on the terrance was delicious and in a pretty setting with tile flooring and tables under umbrella's. I would give this a 10 for wineries in VA!! I have to agree with Patti that Potomac Point Winery is a "must go". I went there last spring and had the same experience, a knowledgeable staff to do the tasting, very good wines and a gorgeous setting. The patio for lunch was a fun experience even in the short rain shower we had. I did not think my sandwich was anything special but I'll be happy to go back and try something different!
