When Will Burke's Caribou Coffee Convert to Peet's Coffee & Tea?

The Caribou Coffee shop in the Kings Park Shopping Center likely won't be a Caribou Coffee location for much longer.

An employee at the store confirmed to Patch that the coffee shop, located at 8948 Burke Lake Rd., is still one of the 88 Caribou stores to convert to a Peet's Coffee & Tea location sometime this year.

Caribou Coffee announced plans last May to close about 80 of its underperforming shops across the country and convert another 88 shops to Peet's as part of a new business strategy.

A statement from Caribou CEO Mike Tattersfield indicated that the conversions would happen "over the next 12 to 18 months," but no official list of the locations was released.

After the announcement, an employee at the Kings Park location initially predicted the conversion would happen in October, but residents have not noticed any changes since then. 

Now an employee at Caribou said the Kings Park Caribou Coffee location could become a Peet's sometime in spring. The store would only have about a week's notice to let customers know about the change.

Calls and emails to Caribou Coffee management by Patch were not returned at the time of publication.

The coffee company also hasn't released any official information about the changes since last year. It's unclear how the conversion will affect the Caribou Perks loyalty program, which some customers have complained about on the Caribou Coffee Facebook page.
