Introduction to Ed

From the Historic Pohick Episcopal Church to the Pohick Regional Library, Virginia’s 42nd district is steeped in history, tradition, family values and the merits of hard working, middle class Americans. This district exemplifies Virginia’s diverse, multicultural population and honors the traditions built by Virginia’s forefathers. However, this district has also outgrown the tired, partisan politics that have become the norm in Richmond.

Although not native to this district, Ed has come to call it his home and loves the various neighborhoods and people inhabiting them. He sees the reflection of history and tradition for which Virginia is famous, but also sees an appreciation for progress and innovation. After numerous phone calls and canvassing treks, Ed has spoken with hundreds of voters who exemplify this.

Having owned his own small business, Ed understands how jobs are created, how to foster small businesses to help them grow and thrive in this tough economy and how the economic and financial needs of this community are to be met. However, he also understands the needs of middle class families, including access to affordable healthcare and public schools that provide a world class education needed to allow our children to compete in this competitive, globalized economy with an infrastructure that provides easy, stress-free access to the main job centers in the area.

Ed has also answered a calling of a different sort. For the past few years, Ed has served as a disaster relief volunteer for the Humane Society as a part of their United States Disaster Animal Rescue Team. Through this experience, Ed has seen first hand how the cooperation of government and private organizations can creatively and efficiently aide areas with enormous, complex needs. The innovation that comes from the cooperation of the government and private organizations can be used in other areas too, such as solving infrastructure and job creation needs.

Rather than focusing on important issues that would allow this district to thrive economically and socially, Ed’s opponent, Dave Albo, has used his term as Delegate to focus on more divisive, polarizing issues. This type of pandering to the right might have appealed to this district when Dave was first elected 20 years ago, but now the 42nd district has outgrown such issues and cares more about how we can bring this community into the future. Rather than focusing on education and health care, Mr. Albo has pushed an agenda that would include forcing women to have trans-vaginal ultrasounds before an abortion can be performed and gerrymandering districts to give an unfair advantage to Republicans. This isn’t right for Virginia and it is especially not right for the 42nd District.

Ed will fight for all Virginians and will ensure respect and admiration for the history and traditions of this great district, but will also work hard 12 months of the year to help usher in an era of innovation that will provide the necessary opportunities to help our neighbors thrive. This is why we need to elect Ed Deitsch on November 5th!
