Franconia-Springfield and Van Dorn Metro Stations Closed Sunday

Closings are prompted by VDOT bridge work

The Franconia-Springfield and Van Dorn Street Metro stations will be closed on Sunday, June 5.

The closures are prompted by work on a bridge near the King Street Metro stop by the Virginia Department of Transportation, according to Metro spokesperson Steven Taubenkibel.

Because the bridge crosses over Metro's train tracks, the two stations past King Street had to be closed.

Shuttle buses will carry passengers from the two closed Metro stations to Eisenhower Avenue, where they can board trains at King Street. Taubenkibel encouraged passengers who use park and ride services to drive to the Huntington Metro instead, which will be in operation on Sunday.

Garages will also be open at Franconia-Springfield and Van Dorn Street.
