Heat Advisory for Thursday

Take precautions when you're going outside today

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for today (Thursday) from 12 Noon to 8 p.m. A heat advisory is in effect from 12 noon to 8 p.m. today in Fairfax County.

Temperatures are expected in the middle to high 90s with a heat index of 100 to 105 degrees. Precautionary/preparedness actions should be taken. A Heat Advisory means the combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible.

In addition, the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments and the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality has issued a "Code Orange" air quality alert for today for the area. A Code Orange means air pollution concentrations may become unhealthy for sensitive groups including children, people who suffer from asthma, heart disease or other lung diseases, and the elderly. The effects of air pollution can be minimized by avoiding strenuous activity or exercise outdoors.
