Whether you spell it donut or doughnut, there’s one word we can all agree on: free. National Donut Day is Friday and donuts shops across Northern Virginia will hand out free donuts to customers in celebration.
The sweet, national holiday was established in 1938 and is recognized on the first Friday in June every year. According to donutdayusa.com, soliders in World War I were served donuts by Salvation Army donut girls.
Check out the video above to learn more about the Salvation Army’s role in National Donut Day.
In order to get your free donut at any Dunkin’ store, you’ll have to purchase a hot or cold beverage.
