Severe Weather Expected Wednesday Evening in Fairfax County

Rain, thunderstorms, small hail predicted across Northern Virginia and DC.

A line of thunderstorms is expected to move through Northern Virginia and DC during this evening’s commute.

Forecasters expect rain and wind to pick up between 4 – 5 p.m. Wednesday.

“Numerous showers and scattered thunderstorms are expected into this evening,” according to the National Weather Service. “Some storms will produce heavy rainfall…which may lead to flooding problems.”

The Capital Weather Gang, however, predicts “as rainfall totals have generally been 1 inch or less from the recent rain, the ground isn’t yet saturated and widespread flooding is not anticipated” in the DC metro area.

The National Weather Service also predicts small hail with this storm system. The rain and storms should move out of the area overnight, leaving partly cloudy skies on Thursday with temperatures reaching the low 70s.
