What means the most

Being able to provide support for needy children is what means the most to Jeanmarie O'Sullivan in her role as a CASA volunteer.

In her job as an administrative assistant with the Fairfax County Public Schools, Jeanmarie O’Sullivan spends a lot of time assisting teachers who work with children in special education. She decided to volunteer with CASA after looking into reporting someone to Child Protective Services. Though remedying that situation was out of her hands, she found opportunities to make a difference in children’s lives through Fairfax CASA.

One of Jeanmarie’s assigned cases was particularly memorable. She was paired with an intellectually disabled child whose parents had their parental rights terminated. The child hoped to be adopted. After a long-term foster care placement, the adoption social worker found a family that wanted to consider adopting her. In addition to her advocacy, Jeanmarie was an important a source of emotional support to the child during this process. Being able to provide this kind of support for needy children is what means the most to Jeanmarie in her role as a CASA volunteer.

If you would like to learn more about CASA volunteering, please attend Fairfax CASA's next information session on Saturday, July 20, 11 am - 12pm, at the Reston Regional Library.
