The Smart Markets Springfield Farmers' Market Opens May 11

Our market opens for the season at a new and improved location Saturday with some of your favorite vendors from last year and new faces as well.

We’re back! Thanks to the help of and with the advice of many Springfield residents and bigwigs, we will reopen Smart Markets Springfield this Saturday in a new and improved location. You will find us on the property of the old Springfield Mall, soon to be the Springfield Town Center, tucked into a lovely little spot with trees all around us next to the Bank of America building on Loisdale Road. We will be between Loisdale and the Target parking lot — hopefully very hard to miss.

We also are bringing you a new and improved group of vendors, many of your old favorites from last year and some friendly new faces and great new products this year. For a full list, see our website.

This year we will host free cooking and canning classes throughout the season thanks to a grant from the Ball Canning Company. We will also have music at the market every month and a few other surprises, too. We will always bring you a friendly and vibrant market, and we encourage you to sign up for our e-mail newsletter so that you won’t miss anything. You may also like us on Facebook or follow us on Twitter.

And of course you can always catch a message about eating for good health right here on Patch each week with a short update about what’s new at the market.

If it ever stops raining, we will have strawberries and freshly picked asparagus at the market this week. Jacob Horst and sons will be back with Trickling Springs dairy products including the best 2-percent milk you ever drank. He will also bring beef, pork, chicken, rose veal, and those great country eggs. We have three Virginia farmers, including a sustainable farmer who grows organically but without the federal seal. You can read more about organic growing on our website.

Thanks to all of Springfield for the continued support. In return we promise you a great market.
