Greenspring Resident and Her Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Featured in 2014 National Calendar

(Springfield, Va.) - Greenspring retirement community resident, Jan Madden, and her seven-year-old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Gilbey, are featured in the 2014 Caring Canines calendar.  Madden and Gilbey are included as the featured photo for June in the national calendar that showcases dogs who live and work in care communities nationwide.  Madden and Gilbey have lived together at Greenspring since 2006.

Madden and Gilbey are active participants in Greenspring’s pet therapy group and regularly visit with residents at Greenspring’s continuing care neighborhood, which includes assisted living, post-acute rehabilitation, nursing care, and memory care.

“I am so thrilled that Gilbey is featured in the Caring Canines calendar,” said Madden.  “He is a very special dog and provides joy and companionship to those he visits.”

The 12-month calendar is published by the AMDA Foundation, the research arm of AMDA—Dedicated to Long Term Care Medicine.  This is the 5th year that the organization has produced the calendar, the proceeds of which fund long term care research and provide educational programs for geriatricians and other professionals who practice in this care setting.
