Greenspring Residents Help Homeless Animals This Holiday Season

During the first two weeks of December, residents at Greenspring retirement community in Springfield, Va. coordinated a drive to collect donations for the Fairfax County Animal Shelter.

“Campus animal lovers donated over $500 and four grocery carts full of goods including blankets, towels, cat and dog food, and grooming supplies, among other items,” said Greenspring’s resident D.O.G. club president, Jan Madden. “All donations will go directly to the support of the animals being cared for at the shelter.”

To kick off the drive on December 4, Cindy Sbrocco, Volunteer Coordinator with the Fairfax County Animal Shelter, visited Greenspring for an interview on the community’s daily live television show.  She was able to share with the community what items the shelter needs all year, as well as during the holiday season.

“The Fairfax County Animal Shelter staff and volunteers appreciate all that the Greenspring residents have done for our animals and continue to do,” said Sbrocco.  “We could not function without the support of the community and are thrilled that Greenspring residents have been so very generous to the animals here at the shelter.”

Greenspring is a pet-friendly community that is home to many dogs, cats, and birds.  There is a “bark park” on campus where dogs and dog owners regularly interact, as well as a variety of opportunities for dog training, pet therapy, and enrichment programs.
