Virginia's Attorney General, Mark Herring, Recently Addressed Seniors at Fraud Prevention Expo

Herring was the keynote speaker at Greenspring retirement community's annual expo

Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring addressed seniors at Greenspring’s 3rd Annual Fraud Prevention Expo.  The expo is held each year at Greenspring in an effort to educate residents and the families of residents on how seniors can protect themselves from fraud and exploitation, as well as to address what systems and services are in place at Greenspring to protect residents from scams.  While the duties of the Attorney General are many, several fit perfectly into the common theme of the expo including protecting seniors from abuse and neglect and enforcing state laws that protect consumers from scams and fraud.

Additionally, Pamela Glasner, producer of the film “Last Will & Embezzlement” starring Mickey Rooney, shared with the audience her documentary about the financial exploitation of seniors.  Glasner previously visited for Greenspring’s first expo in 2012.

Other visitors at the event included AARP Virginia, Department of Homeland Security , Fairfax County Consumer Affairs, Fairfax County Dept. of Family Services – Adult Protective Services, Fairfax County Dept. of Family Services – Adult Services, Fairfax County Police & Crime Prevention, National Council on Aging, Office of the Attorney General of Virginia, PNC Bank, Rizert & Leyton, State Corporate Commission – Bureau of Insurance, State Corporate Commission – Division of Securities, United States Postal Inspection Service, West & Gaarder, the Greenspring resident computer club, as well as and several Greenspring departments including security and social work.
