Robinson Prepares for the World Choir Games

The Robinson Singers and Select Women's Ensemble are preparing for the 2012 World Choir Games.

One year ago while searching for music I stumbled upon a video on YouTube about the World Choir Games.  Naturally I was interested, but when I pressed play and viewed the presentation, I could hardly contain the excitement I felt for this event.  In the blink of an eye, I sent the link to my students and the positive reaction was immediate.

For the first time, the World Choir Games will be held in the United States (Cincinnati, OH).  While many challenges would exist in participating in an event like this, I thought that it would be achievable.  Along with the students in the -- 60 students total -- we decided to make the commitment to participate in this once in a lifetime musical event.  It has been non-stop planning and practice since that moment.

The preparations began in August with summer rehearsals and have continued throughout the year.  The students have been working collaboratively along with our choral parents association to raise funds.  Speaking of funds ... we need (and have received) a lot of help.  If you would still like to help and make a donation, please click http://www.robinsonsings.org/home/world-choir-games

All year I have been asking the students to go a "step beyond" and that is exactly what has been happening.  It is a joy to observe all the students have been doing and experience the pride they have in themselves and their music.  Soon we will know our performance times and all of the remaining details of this incredible event. At a time when school is winding down, we are faced with the challenge of turning up the intensity.

We hope you can join us for our Farewell Concert on July 2 at 7 p.m.  We'll be performing at Lord of Life Lutheran Church, 5114 Twinbrook Road in Fairfax.  Donations will be accepted to help with the trip.
