Burke Neighborhood Suffers Second Playground Fire

Thursday's early morning blaze completely destroyed the newly installed structure.

Residents of the Lake Braddock townhome community on Harford Lane and Tibbit Lane in Burke saw flames from their windows early Thursday morning, as the playground in the courtyard burned.

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue responded to the call at about 1 a.m. Department spokesman Captain Bill Moreland said investigators were on the scene throughout the day.  Damage estimates are still to be determined.

A spokesperson for The Lake Braddock Community Association said the playground had just been installed at the beginning of the summer.  The fire's intensity completely destroyed the equipment.

Earlier this week, Fairfax County fire investigators reported they'd charged a male juvenile with setting a fire capable of spreading and carelessly damaging property by fire in connection with the June 14 playground fire in the same neighborhood. That fire, located at the Lake Braddock Community Association playground adjacent to 5120/5122 Dahlgreen Place, primarily damaged a slide. There were no injuries.  Damage was estimated at $2,000.
