Burke Residents, Local Officials Visit Burke Fire Department Open House

Visitors were able to check out display booths and learn about fire safety in the home on the last day of Fire Prevention Week.

Burke residents, local officials and Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department staff braved the rainy weather Saturday for the Burke Volunteer Fire Department Station 14 annual open house.

The station, which is located at 9501 Old Burke Lake Rd., hosts an open house once a year in conjunction with Fire Prevention Week.

Fairfax County Board of Supervisors Chairman Sharon Bulova delivered some opening remarks to kick off the open house. In addition to the local boy scout troops in attendance, Braddock District Supervisor John Cook and Springfield District Supervisor Pat Herrity, who visited the Burke History Day in the banquet hall next door, also attended the open house.

Children and their parents were able to climb into fire trucks and ambulances during the open house and speak with police officers with the West Springfield District Station of the Fairfax County Police Department. There were also display booths during the open house that taught residents the proper way to use candles and protect their home from kitchen fires.
