Credit Union Robber Confesses

Angela Marie Roselee Fitzhugh-Hill was arrested outside the Office Depot where she worked.

The woman accused of robbing two Fairfax County credit unions confessed to the crimes following her arrest, according to a police search warrant application.

Angela Marie Roselee Fitzhugh-Hill, an Alexandria resident, was arrested on August 2. She has been charged with robbery and threatening to use a bomb in connection with the robberies of two Apple Federal Credit Union branches in Springfield and Kingstowne.

According to a search warrant filed by Fairfax County Police Department robbery Detective Aniello A. DeSantis, Fitzhugh-Hill confessed to police shortly after her arrest. DeSantis’s application, made on August 3, was for permission to search Fitzhugh-Hill’s car.

The branch at 6314 Springfield Plaza in Springfield, and the one at 6831 Viceroy Drive in Kingstowne were robbed in the same manner on July 29 and July 15, respectively. A woman entered the banks and passed a note to the teller threatening to detonate a bomb unless she received money. After taking the money, the robber escaped.

Surveillance footage from the Springfield robbery captured the suspect’s car: a Buick LeSabre with missing molding on the passenger-side doors and a decal on its windshield, according to DeSantis’s warrant application. The car’s description was broadcast to every FCPD police district with an Apple Federal Credit Union.

Four days after the second robbery, on August 2, an FCPD patrol officer noticed a car matching the description in Beacon Mall, in the 6700 block of Richmond Highway.

Soon, Fitzhugh-Hill came out of a nearby Office Depot, where she worked, for a smoke break. Detectives confirmed that she met the description of the credit union robber.

As Fitzhugh-Hill approached her car, officers arrested her and transported her to the Adult Detention Center. A hearing in her case is scheduled for September 20.
