Fire Damages Unoccupied Annandale Home

"Coming Soon" on real estate sign in front yard

Fire damaged a single family home at 9203 Alyssum Way in Annandale Wednesday morning.

Captain Joe Schumacher of the City of Fairfax Fire Department said the dispatch came through at 7:45 a.m.  "When we arrived there was smoke showing through the entire structure," he said.

Fire fighters believe that no one was in the home at the time of the fire.  "A neighbor told us that the owner had died, and the house was for sale, but that's unconfirmed," said Schumacher.

"It's believed that the fire started in the basement, but investigators are on the scene," he said.

A representative from Long & Foster Realtors, the company listing the house, said that the home was scheduled to go on the market tomorrow.  "They put a lot of work into it," he said, not giving his name.  He would not confirm who owned the home, but he was at the scene "waiting for the daughter to arrive."

According to Schumacher, City of Fairfax and Fairfax County units responded to the one alarm fire.  There were no injuries.
