Firefighters Rescue Dog from Townhouse Fire in Burke

Damage to the home is estimated at $45,000.

A dog was rescued from a townhouse fire in Burke on Monday by Fairfax County firefighters.

According to a news release from the Fairfax County Fire Department, fire units responded at 7 a.m. to a fire on the 5565 block of MacDuff Court.

Upon arrival, firefighters "encountered heavy smoke coming from the rear of the middle unit townhouse" and "conducted an interior fire attack in an upstairs rear bedroom" to bring the fire under control, the release states.

All occupants of the home were able to exit the home due to smoke alarms providing early warning. However, firefighters found a dog in the rear bedroom suffering from burns and smoke inhalation during their search.

The release further states the dog was treated by paramedics prior to being transported to a veterinary facility by Animal Control for treatment. There were no other injuries.

One adult and four children have been displaced and the family has accepted Red Cross support.

Fire investigators have ruled the fire as accidental, caused by a fault in a computer laptop power cord. Damage to the home is estimated at $45,000.
