Five-Year-Old Discovers Bullet Hole in Bedroom Wall

Fredericksburg police report suspect charged with felony weapons violation.

A Fredericksburg resident in the 2300 block Cowan Boulevard called police on Oct. 16, when his 5-year-old son found a bullet hole through the wall of a bedroom, according to Fredericksburg police.  The call came in at about 10:40 a.m.

"The investigating officer further discovered that the bullet had lodged into the side of the bedroom dresser," police said in an email. Police determined that the fired round came from the adjacent apartment, so officers cleared that residence and found that its occupant was not at home.

The suspect was contacted at work, and he returned to Fredericksburg
to speak to investigators. The suspect gave consent for officers to search his vehicle and his apartment, and a total of four firearms were recovered and seized for evidence and safekeeping.

The 25-year-old Fredericksburg man was arrested and charged with reckless handling of a firearm, according to police. He was released by the magistrate on a $3500 bond.

The investigation also revealed that the shot had been fired at approximately 1 a.m., and the offender did not make any attempt to check on his neighbors or report the incident to authorities. Police report an additional charge was obtained, charging the man with unlawful discharge of a firearm into an
occupied dwelling, which is a Class 6 felony.
