Alexandria man charged with DWI, speeding to elude police, reckless driving and refusing to submit to breath test.

A high-speed chase on Old Keene Mill Road early Friday morning has led to the arrest of an Alexandria man, according to Fairfax County Police.

Police have arrested Matthew T. Heislup, 28, for DWI, speeding to elude police, reckless driving and refusing to submit to a breath test.

The incident began on Interstate 495, where a police officer observed a Nissan Pathfinder stopped and facing the wrong way.

The officer stopped to provide assistance, but the driver of the Pathfinder fled at a high rate of speed, according to police.

The officer pursued the vehicle onto Old Keene Mill Road and then to Bardu Avenue, where it crashed. The driver attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended by other responding police officers.
